A Night in My City

A Night in My City

Sun sets in the western sky

Stretching its orange arms in the horizon,

Silver clouds reflect the golden tinge of the sun

Slowly dark veils descend on the earth.

Flights of birds fly across the sky

leaves of the  peepultree murmur the evening hymns.

A puff of cool breeze works its way through the woods

Hark ! I hear the chiming of bells from the shrine nearby

Sound of the wheels die down ; puffs of smoke subside

noise of the crowds become whispers.

A few stars peep out of the clouds

The silver clouds become dense dark clouds

indicating the oncoming of a night shower

The thick green foliage get ready to receive the rain.

The parched seeds under the earth are ready to sprout

to make this earth a greener one.

            My Mirror

One morning I took a mirror
Looked into it to see my face
It fell down breaking into pieces
each piece was a mirror for me.

                      I looked into each piece
                 each  one was different
                One showed a cheerful face,
                 One a sad,one a dejected one,
                 one a depressed, one a frustrated o
one an anxious one,a curious one.

One a sickly indeed,a desperate one.
How many faces do I have, I thought
 Perhaps a thousand and more
 like the scattered remnants
of a dream seen forlorn and forgotten.

Sleep Baby Sleep

  Sleep Baby Sleep

The moon rises in the eastern sky
The clouds float slowly in the sky
The stars gaze at the sleepy earth
Lulling everyone to sleep

sleep baby sleep

listen to the silent melodie of the earth
closing your little eyes to dream
of all beauteous forms on earth.

sleep baby sleep

dream of all fair things
the blue sky, deep ocean  and
the vibrant rainbow.
sleep baby sleep

dream of the unknown lands
wherein fairies and witches wander
with their magic wands.

sleep baby sleep

dream of the little blue boy of Brindavan
on the banks of the pristine Yamuna
dancing with His Gopies
playing on His reed luring his cattle
the silver rays of the moon make
the earth an ocean of milk
spring arrives at the touch of His feet
the woods echo the sound of His anklets
the silk robes flutter in the breeze waters of the Yamuna bicker down singing His glories.
there is laughter everywhere in nature.

A Prayer

Make me the vibrant music of thy flute,   my lord
Make me the yellow robes that adorn your waist
Make me the feathers that adeck your crown
Make me the garland that decorate your broad chest
Make me the crystal waters of Yamuna that washes your feet
Make me the tender grass of Brindavan that little feet crush
Make me the gopies that dance around you.
Make me the Yesoda , the mother of the  divine
This is my prayer unto Thee, my Lord.

Lullaby of the Sea

Lullaby of the sea

I lay on the sands beside the sea
Gazing at the dark sky as far as I could see
Listening to the roar of the waves
They thrash upon the coast like thunder
Rising up into sky like an enchantress
Slowly emerges music in the air
The rhythm of the waves changed into a song
A wind blew upon the earth
Waters of the sea moved in mirth
The strains coming out from the heaven
The sun goes down into the sea
The crystal water reflect the orange rays of the sun
The breeze blows in quietly to soothen my thoughts
The roar of the sea slowly changes
Into a melodie that lulls me to sleep.
